Death is not the end of your suffering. If you need any help, pleasecontactNational Suicide Prevention Lifeline (United States): 1 (800) 273-8255.

The internet is the place to go to when you need an answer toany of your questions. But it seems that some questions just cannot have easy answers, and finding the easiest way to kill yourself is just that kind of thing. You can definitely find so many ways to kill yourself, but it is never easy to identify the easiest of them all. Keep reading to learn more about some of the most lethal ways to kill yourself.

Most Lethal Ways to Kill Yourself
It is true that there are several methods of killing yourself, but so many of them won't prove effective. Many o

f those methods would end in injuries only. You can find some statistics online about the number of successful suicides by method and consider using one of them. In a study published in 1995, 10 forensic pathologists and 297 lay persons rates the time, lethality, and agony for about 28 methods of suicide used by 4,117 people to commit suicide in Los Angeles County. All participants had to rate each method for the following three factors:

  • Lethality: How effective the method is in causing death (100% means absolutely certainty and 0% means no chance).

  • Time: Views about how long it will take the method to produce death.

  • Agony: The amount of discomfort and pain you'd experience when using any particular method (ranked on scale of 0 to 100).

Here's a table that shows the least effective method at the top and the most effective method, as per the study, at the bottom.

It is however important to point out that most nonprofessionals overestimated the lethality of these methods used for committing a suicide. In addition, there was a difference in how men and women chose a particular method to kill themselves.

Dangers of Failing
After reading the1995 study, you might think the easiest way to kill yourself is to jump under a train or simply shoot yourself. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. There is a significant amount of possibility that such ways of self-killing might fail. And once a suicidal attempt fails, the result will almost always be atrocious.

Firearm
When using a firearm to the head, you may completely miss the most important parts of your brain. This may not result in a quick death. Similarly, aiming under the chin may only blow off parts of your face, which is only going to cause massive disfiguration. Shot in front of your head may only affect your brain function and result in paralysis instead of death. Shooting through the temples can also miss the brain and may only damage the nerves that go to the eyes – this will cause blindness and won't be fatal.

You may consider aiming at other parts of your body, like the chest, neck, back, and abdomen, but that again may only result in infection, damage to the colon, pain, severe damage to diaphragm, or damage to liver or Spleen. The blood may accumulate in your pleural cavity due to internal bleeding of organs, in the chest. It implies that failing to use this method correctly may only result in very unpleasant injuries.

Jumping Under a Train
The other seemingly simple way to kill you is to jump under a train. Although you cannot find enough statistics on the mortality rate of being hit by a train, Wikipedia believes it is around 90% if you jump under a high-speed train. The mortality rate will go down to 67% if you jump under subway trains mainly because usually jump when the trains are approaching the station and are slowing down.

An important consideration is that jumping under a train can be traumatic not only for the one who's attempting suicide but also for others involved in the incident. Train drivers often complain about post-traumatic stress disorder. Anyone witnessing the suicide may also be traumatized. At the end of it, a family member will have to do the hard job of identifying an extremely disfigured body. This could also be an extremely painful death and you may even survive with some serious injuries, broken bones, and brain damage.

Some Other Methods
What it implies is that if the two most 'favorable' methods can fail, other 'less' favorable methods can also fail easily. However, there are some other commonly used methods that may help you find the easiest way to kill yourself. For instance:

  • Hanging: You can try one of two ways to hang yourself to death. It could be a simple suspension in which you die because of asphyxiation, no supply of blood to your heart/brain/lungs or arterial compression. It could also be a drop hanging in which a platform is kicked under your feet and your body drops suddenly that breaks the neck and ruptures the spinal cord. The success of suicide by hanging also depends on the strength of the rope and the knot. Make sure the knot sits behind your neck and the other end of the rope is attached to something sturdy to prevent rope breakage that may only result in brain damage. Death by hanging will make your tongue to swell and your face to turn blue. There may also be urination and defecation.

  • Drug Overdose: Drug overdose may work but it is not always successful. That's mainly because the potency of street drugs is not that reliable, so it is difficult to calculate MLD or minimum lethal dosage. Many outside factors may also change MLD – including your tolerance level, body weight, and whether you're doing it on empty stomach or not. You should also keep in mind that it might take up to 10 hours or even more to commit suicide by drug overdose. The fact that some drugs can cause convulsions before death also affects the mortality rate of this method.

  • Jumping Off a Tall Building: The most important thing here is to jump from a sufficient height. Jumping from a height of 150 feet or higher may result in instant death. You may also ensure that you land on your head because it will result in a quicker death. If you land on the ground with your feet hitting first, you may only end up dealing with nonfatal injuries.

As you can see, it is just not possible to find the easiest way to kill yourself. You also need to understand that though suicide feels like the best solution to your problems, it can be extremely painful for your loved ones. In most cases, the reasoning behind suicide is selfish, faulty, and subjective, so it is important that you take your time and make an educated decision if you really want to commit suicide.
