Granulocytes

Granulocytes

White blood cells that have granules are termed as granulocytes. They are known by the name polymorpho nuclear leukocytes (PMN) since it has different shape of nucleus pairing into three divisions. Three types of granulocytes are recognized namely neutrophil granulocytes, basophil granulocytes and eosionophil granulocytes. The names are given due to the color of stain it produces on the affected part. Generally the term poly morpho nuclear leukocyte refers to neutrophil granulocytes which are extensively found. Sometimes granulocytes are discharged from the bone marrow by means of protein molecules.

Actually the origin of granulocytes is from stem cells of bone marrow. Granulopoiesis is the name given to the stem cell which is formed from different type. The blood cells which do not contain granulocytes are called as Agranulocytes.
