Paranoid Schizophrenia






Schizophrenia is a type of Mental Illness and paranoid schizophrenia belongs to that category of illness in which the person will lose touch with reality. Hearing strange sounds and having delusions are quite common in this disorder. However unlike other types of schizophrenia, the person can carry on normal functions since he/she will have concentration and memory in good condition.


Symptoms of paranoid disorder are delusions (imagination which are purely irrational) and auditory/visual hallucinations. Hearing voices of dead persons, strange sounds are very common in this disorder. The person may get anxiety and emotional for simple matters. He may behave strangely and can be argumentative for defending self. Every time they feel that they are being watched for even a small action. There may be delusions of grandeur (irrational belief) and sometimes this can be harmful for others.










Since paranoid schizophrenia is a brain disorder the actual cause is unknown. May be genetics and environmental factors are responsible for causing this disorder.


This type of schizophrenia can be cured completely by strong medicines combined with psychotherapy. The drugs are given to control the symptoms and functions of brain by arresting the neurotransmitters. Antipsychotic drugs are given for controlling hallucinations and delusions.


The patient should be treated by individual psychotherapy along with family counseling. In some cases, electro convulsive therapy is given to the person.
