Seborrheic keratosis

Seborrheic keratosis

Seborrheic keratosis is a type of skin rash that is non-cancerous. It starts as a small black growth on the face and chest region. The bumps appear like scaly patches slightly elevated. Very often it occurs in groups or batches. It looks like Skin Cancer, even though they are not.

The extra growth of skin is painless and does not require any treatment. However it can be removed for cosmetic purpose.

The symptoms are black or brown shaped bumps which are either round or oval in shape. It resembles like wax like paste on the skin surface with elevated growth roughly about 1-2.5 inches.

There is no specific cause for getting this disorder. It can occur due to old age.

It may cause discomfort and embarrassment and people want to remove this waxy structure from the skin. Treatment can be done by cryosurgery method for freezing the growth with liquid nitrogen. The growth is never deep rooted and hence does not leave any scar. Curettage and electro-cautery are the process used for cutting the growth using current.
