Warts are small extra cell growths on skin by the infection of one of human papilloma virus family. Warts are self-limited raised bumps that are non
Cancerous and outer layers of skin become hard and thick over the spot. Warts in prominent places on the skin can prove to be very embarrassing indeed, especially since they seem to attract attention faster than skin colour and tone do. It does not help that these unsightly growths have the tendency to take up residence in a rather stubborn way, refusing to budge from their places. The human papilloma virus keeps seeking ways to enter your body. Therefore, uncovered cuts and wounds can prove to be suitable entry points. It is not advisable to share your personal care items with others such as razors, towels etc. It might amaze you to know that there are over 60 types of this virus!
- Some of them create light-brown or flesh-coloured growths to show up on the soles of your feet. Do you also see tiny black dots on them? Well, they are tiny blood vessels that have clotted.
- Now, if the benign lumps show up in the pubic region or on your genitals, you are in for a hard time! Sometimes, they appear in the vagina or surround the anus. These are clusters of genital warts, which are visible as red, flesh-coloured or pink growths. You may experience itching and bleeding along with mild pain.
- Warts growing on the face, arms or legs are flat warts. As the name suggests, they appear smaller, smoother and flatter.
- Sometimes, warts show up on the hands as gray-brown, rough and dome-shaped structures.
- If you see warts around the nails on your toes and fingers, they are periungual warts.
- Filiform warts are skin-coloured, preferring to grow around the chin, mouth or nose.
Since professional therapies can prove lengthy and expensive at times, you might like to try a few home remedies for saying ‘good riddance’ to your ‘warty’ problem!
1. Apple Cider VinegarThe scientific name of vinegar is acetic acid. Naturally, ACD has an adverse effect on certain kinds of viruses and bacteria. It actually ‘burns’ the infected skin, prompting warts to destroy themselves. In fact, even your immune system becomes stronger and the pH balance of the skin comes back to normal.
Method- Prepare a solution of two parts of apple cider vinegar and one part water. It is advisable to use the acid in a diluted manner
- Take a small cotton ball and dip it in the solution
- Place the cotton ball over the wart and cover it with an adhesive bandage. This will help the cotton ball to stay in place while you sleep
- Remove the cotton ball and bandage the next morning
- Repeat the process every night until the wart drops off
Do you have warts on your hands or feet? Then follow the below method.
- Combine equal parts of water and apple cider vinegar in a bucket
- Place your hands or feet in this solution
- Remove after 15 minutes and rinse with normal water
- Repeat the process once every day until the warts fall off
2. Duct TapeEven microbes need oxygen to survive. Therefore, the best way to kill them is by suffocating them with duct tape. You will merely need a piece that suffices to cover the wart completely.
- Place the strip over a particular wart, allow it to remain in place for some days
- In case, the tape slips off too soon, go in for a new and better quality strip
- You should see the wart and the tape fall off after six to seven days
- Rinse the affected area with normal water
- Now, take a pumice stone or emery board and scrub the area. This is to ensure that the remnants of the lump disappear too
- In case another application is needed, give a gap of one day, and repeat the process all over again.
3. GarlicAvailable in every kitchen, garlic possesses anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, which will cause warts to blister and drop off. Try to tolerate the strong smell, for it is a splendid home remedy.
- Make a paste of fresh garlic and water. After spreading it all over a wart, cover it with a bandage. Repeat the process after a few hours. Continue, until the offending lumps separate from your skin.
- You may even crush a clove of raw garlic, and apply it over a wart. Place a bandage over it. Remove and rinse the affected skin after 20 minutes or so. Repeat the process. If you do this twice every day, you should be able to obtain a blemish-free skin after a week or so.
Vitamins
4. Vitamin C Vitamin C contains bioflavonoids, which are excellent to boost to your immune system. It is the reason why doctors recommend this tablet with its anti-viral properties, for the
Common cold or flu.
- Take a vitamin C tablet and break it. Break it in such a way that it fits the wart perfectly
- Next, place the broken tablet over the wart and cover it with a band-aid/bandage
- Remove the next day, and replace both, tablet and band-aid
- You should be able to see positive results within the next two weeks, once you follow this treatment daily.
5. Vitamin E Then again, you have vitamin E, which is a splendid anti-oxidant. It improves blood circulation, encourages healing and promotes quick repair of damaged tissues.
- Get hold of a vitamin E capsule and prick it
- Allow the oil inside to flow over your wart
- Cover the affected area with a band-aid, glove or sock, in order to prevent the oil from spreading elsewhere
- Continue the treatment daily, for two weeks.
Alternatively, you may go in for a cream or emulsion containing vitamin E as the main ingredient.
6. Vitamin A Vitamin A is great for maintaining healthy skin, as well as the epithelial membranes.
- You may consume vitamin A supplements, in alignment with the daily IU recommendations.
- Ensure that you adhere to a diet rich in vitamin A, such as apricots, pumpkin, mangoes, papaya, carrots and garlic.
- Prick a gel-cap of vitamin E and apply the oil directly over a wart
- Use a band-aid to keep the oil in place
- Repeat the process daily for about two weeks or so.
Although vitamins are good for you, you are advised to use them with caution. Note that your body needs vitamins in minimal amounts. Excess will result in
Poisoning. Therefore, consult your personal physician or dermatologist before consuming supplements or applying the oils directly on your warts.
Vegetables and Fruits
7. Pineapple Fresh and sweet pineapple is filled with dissolving enzymes and natural acids, which will even remove the scar left behind by a wart that separates from your skin. In fact, the fruit ensures that the environment is no longer favourable for the
HPV virus.
- Although it is bound to sting a little, spread pineapple juice all over the wart with the aid of a cotton ball. The stinging sensation will disappear after some time
- Allow the juice to remain for some time, prior to rinsing the affected area
- Repeat the same at least twice or thrice each day
- You should be able to see your wart disappear within a couple of weeks or so
- Another method is to soak your hand or leg in pineapple juice for three to five minutes at a time. You may repeat the method twice or thrice a day, until the wart disappears completely. However, you will need more juice to be able to soak your affected skin in it.
8. Peel Of A BananaThe peel of a banana has a splendidly powerful enzyme within it, for uprooting warts. This proteolytic enzyme is capable of mitigating the ill effects caused by the microbe, as well as restoring the smoothness of the skin.
- Remove the peel of a fresh banana, just before going to bed
- Cut a small portion of it in such a way that it may encompass the wart completely
- Ensure that the white, inner portion of the peel touches the skin
- Secure it in place with a tape
- Remove the tape and the peel the next morning
- Continue this treatment every night, until you are able to pull out the wart easily
- This method is specifically useful for Plantar warts (on the soles).
9. Green Papaya The skin of a raw, green papaya fruit is equally effective, since its sap is strong and unfavourable for the virus. Additionally, it possesses the papain enzyme, which refuses to let the virus multiply or even grow properly.
- Ensure that a small portion of the papaya skin covers the wart fully
- The fleshy part of the skin must touch the skin
- Keep it in place with the aid of a tape
- Do this just before going to bed, such that the papaya works its magic during the night
- Remove in the morning, and repeat in the night once again
- Continue until every wart is gone from your skin
- Sometimes, people mash the flesh within a raw papaya and make a paste, as a better alternative
- You may do the same and spread the paste all over the warts. The rest of the method is the same.
10. Raw Potato Not only do the skins of fruits possess miraculous powers of healing, but also the skins of vegetables. For instance, the skin of a raw potato is alkaline in nature. As a result, it halts the growth and development of the virus. Naturally, the virus finds it hard to survive.
- Ensure that you wash the potato well, prior to peeling off its skin
- Take a strip that encircles your wart, as well as covers it completely
- Let its fleshy side be in contact with your skin
- Use a duct tape to keep the strip in place
- Let the potato skin remain in this position for 24 hours
- Remove, and repeat every day, until the warts fall off
- Alternative method is to cut a raw potato into two halves
- Place the fleshy half over the wart and rub vigorously
- This will ensure that the juice from the raw potato penetrates the lump
- Do this twice in a day – morning and night
- The results will be visible within a couple of weeks or so.
11. Use Of Garlic Have you ever given a thought to the use of garlic with its large quantity of powerful sulphur and potent anti-viral properties? If you have not, do so now, for it also has a strong aroma, which is unfavourable for the virus. The odour emanates from phenol, which is excellent for boosting your immune system too.
- Crush a few pods of fresh garlic, prior to getting into bed
- Spread the powder over your wart and cover with a duct tape
- Remove and rinse the affected area in the morning
- Repeat the process every night, until your warts are uprooted completely.
12. Populus Euphratica (Euphrates Poplar)The method is commonly known as cryotherapy or burning of warts at low temperatures.
- Take Poplus eupratica leaves and dry them
- Find a place outdoors, where other flammable things are out of reach
- Ensure that you have a stove with you, for lighting a fire
- Place the leaves on the fire for several minutes
- Cover the leaves, such that the flames of the fire are put out
- Remove the cover and check that the fire is out completely
- As long as the leaves continue to smoulder, hold your hand or foot over them
- Ensure that the distance between the leaves and the affected skin is at least six inches or so
- Let the smoke from the leaves travel all over your wart for 15 minutes or more
- Repeat this process every day, until the warts fall off from all affected areas.
