At some point of life, most of us would have had inner thigh rash. The main cause of thigh rash is development of microorganisms on that area causing irritation and itching with redness. It is so uncomfortable to scratch the private parts in public. The formation of thigh rash is not a good sign and it occurs due to poor hygiene. It gives an unpleasant smell and severe itching sensation. The condition may worsen if you are not taking treatment.


Causes :










Clothing :


Synthetic clothing will have a bad impact on the skin and wearing the undergarments tight with elastic fitting will leave pressure on the skin all the time forming inner thigh rashes. It can also occur due to the rubber and latex present in these clothes. Certain type of dyes used in the preparation of undergarments can also cause irritation. Hence always choose cotton clothes for covering your private parts.


Excess of Sweat :


Excess of sweat can cause inner thigh rash. This is one of the common causes for most men and women during summer. An individual having fat thighs will naturally develop a friction on the folds of skin causing moisture. This will give room for bacteria to develop on this causing thigh rash.


Heat Rash :


For some people heat rashes develop on the inner thigh region and other parts of the body. It can be mainly due to weather that causes heat rashes and even boils on the skin. Due to intense heat and rising temperature it causes increased sweating.


Insect Bites :


Sometimes, insects like ants, bed bugs and mosquitoes can bite us on the inner thigh region forming rashes and bumps. Most of these rashes will disappear after few hours but certain rashes get severe creating severe itching. It will also form small red bumps or lesions on the skin.


Poison Ivy :


In rare cases, skin rash is formed from the exposure to poison oak or ivy causing severe itching. You can get this rash even from your pets after visiting the woods with your dog or cat.


Jock Itch :


The fungus by name tinea cruris spreads this infection on the inner thigh causing scaly red patches forming blisters or bumps. Certain type of cheap cosmetics contains certain chemicals causing allergic rashes. Shingles can also cause painful rash with itching and burning sensation. Inner thigh rashes can be caused by sexually transmitted diseases like Syphilis or herpes. It will occur on groin and genitals.


Symptoms :


Some of the symptoms of inner thigh rash include itching, irritation, and redness on the area of the skin. It will cause blisters or lesions on the affected area with burning sensation. There will be discomfort and pain while walking. Due to repeated itching, it will cause embarrassment for the affected person to scratch the thigh often.


Tests :


It is easy to diagnose inner thigh rash on physical examination of the affected skin and with the above symptoms.

Home Remedies :


Before going for medical help for managing inner thigh rash, you should first stop scratching the area. Wash the area with cold water and gently pat with dry towel. If possible apply ice for few minutes to reduce itching and inflammation. Do not wear synthetic clothes instead choose only cotton clothing. It is good to wear shorts in the place of pants.


After washing the area you can apply creams or lotion for soothing effect. Aloe Vera gel is highly useful for treating inner thigh rash. It can manage itching and irritation to the maximum. Taking oatmeal bath is highly effective to give relief from itching. Applying olive oil regularly will help fighting against infections. Do not leave the inner area moist. Hence after taking a shower you can pat the area with dry cloth. Apply talcum powder daily which will absorb sweat and moisture.

Medical Treatment :


Exact cause of the inner thigh rash is to be found before giving treatment. In case the rashes are due to eczema steroid medications can be used for managing itching. Ointments that contain corticosteroid can be applied on the inner thighs for getting relief from itching.


For treating various skin problems from Allergy, anti-allergic drugs can be used. Antihistamines are effective to reduce redness and clearing skin flare up. Creams that contain vitamin D or cod liver oil are useful for retaining hydration on the skin. For inner thigh rash caused by psoriasis, phototherapy is given. Drugs that contain retinoid are effective in managing psoriasis.
