Popcorn is a favorite amongst cinema goers. Most people are unaware of the large amounts of calories contained in snacks like popcorn, ice cream and fizzy drinks.


The Food Standards Agency claims that a bag (large) containing sweet popcorn with lots of additives could have about 1800 calories-equivalent to one large curry with 2 bottles of beer and sides.


The amount of calories in popcorn depends on the preparation or the way it’s cooked. Read on to learn more about popcorn calories.

Popcorn Recipes
1. Microwave Popcorn



Servings: 3


Ingredients


  • Un-popped popcorn (1/2 cup)
  • Vegetable oil (1tspn)
  • Salt (1/2 tspn)


Directions


  • Mix the oil and un-popped popcorn in a small bowl or cup.
  • Take that coated corn and put it into a brown lunch paper sack and sprinkle some salt onto the corn then fold the top twice.
  • Cook in a microwave about 2 to 3 minutes or until there is a 2 second pause between pops. Open bag carefully because of steam.


2. Caramel Popcorn



Servings: 5 quarts


Ingredients


  • Butter - 1 cup
  • Brown sugar – 2 cups
  • Corn syrup – ½ cup
  • Salt – 1 tspn
  • Baking soda – ½ tspn
  • Vanilla extract – 1 tspn
  • Popped popcorn – 5 quarts


Directions


  • Have the oven preheated to 250oF (95oC)
  • Have the popcorn placed in large bowl
  • Melt butter in medium heat in a medium saucepan.
  • Stir the brown sugar, salt and corn syrup in and let to boil as you stir.
  • Leave it for about 4 minutes then remove from heat. Stir in the vanilla and baking soda.
  • Place it in baking dishes (shallow ones) then bake in the pre-heated oven. Stir after every fifteen minutes for an hour. Remove and leave to completely cool.
